Whether to use the singular or the plural for teacher student communication is a matter that can be decided in each specific case without dogmatic aphorisms. The singular is perhaps preferred as long as the teacher can maintain a distance of essential respect without which the transmission of knowledge and opinions becomes particularly difficult. In the effort to get to know students better with each other as well as with the teacher the value of an excursion or a social event outside the classroom should not be underestimated.
